September 25, 2023: On September 24, 2023, Tezu Airport was officially opened by Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of civil aviation and steel, and Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
The minister added that three direct routes — from Itanagar to Delhi, Jorahat, and Rupsi — will soon be operationalized as part of the government's UDAN 5.0 regional connectivity program.
On the banks of the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh, there lies a little settlement called Tezu. It serves as the Lohit district's administrative center. The surrounding area of the town is recognized for its picturesque splendor, which includes rolling hills and lush green forests.
At the state government's request, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) performed the development and upgrading work to operationalize the airport. Construction of a new terminal building, a fire station/ATC tower, a 1500mx30m runway extension, and a new apron for ATR-72 type aircraft are all included in the Rs 170 crore worth of work.
The Teju Airport became operating in 2018 as part of the UDAN program of the Center. There is only one runway used for operations at this domestic airport in Tezu. The airport, which was constructed on 212 acres of land, can operate ATR72-type aircraft. Alliance Air and Flybig Airline currently offer regularly scheduled flights that connect it to Guwahati, Imphal, and Dibrugarh.
