Tamil Nadu launches single-window system for small residential building permits

July 23, 2024: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched a new single-window system on July 22 to streamline the process of obtaining building permits for small residential projects.

Under the Tamil Nadu Department of Housing and Urban Development, this new system allows for quicker approval of permits for constructing or redeveloping residential buildings on plots up to 2,500 sqft with a maximum built-up area of 3,500 sqft. The buildings permitted under this system can be up to 7 meters in height and must be set back 1.5 meters from the road.

How to Obtain a Permit:

  1. Visit the official website: https://www.onlineppa.tn.gov.in/

  1. Upload the required documents, including plot area, ownership details, road width, built-up area, and building height.
  2. The portal will calculate the applicable charges. After making the payment, you can instantly download the building permit and drawings, which include a QR code.

Previous Process: Before the launch of this portal, obtaining a building permit involved site inspections and document verification by authorities. Local planning authorities then reviewed the drawings and collected fees, which often extended the approval process to a month or more.
