PM lays foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 29,400 cr in Mumbai

On July 15, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several infrastructure projects in Mumbai, collectively valued at more than Rs 29,400 crore. These projects are aimed at enhancing road and rail connectivity between Mumbai and its neighboring regions.

Highlighting Maharashtra's pivotal role in India's development, the Prime Minister emphasized its strength in industry, agriculture, and finance, envisioning Mumbai as the financial hub and fintech capital of the world.

Among the projects inaugurated, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, costing Rs 16,600 crore. This twin-tube tunnel spanning 11.8 km will connect Thane Ghodbunder Road with the Western Express Highway at Borivali, reducing travel time between Thane and Borivali by approximately one hour.

Additionally, Modi launched the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, worth over Rs 6,300 crore. The GMLR aims to connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, facilitating direct access to the proposed new airport at Navi Mumbai and the Pune Mumbai Expressway.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling will enhance efficiency by segregating long-distance and suburban train traffic, while the cargo terminal will boost employment opportunities and serve as a hub for handling commodities like cement.

Modi also dedicated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. These enhancements will accommodate longer trains and increase passenger capacity, thereby improving operational efficiency and traffic management at both stations.

Additionally, the Prime Minister launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a Rs 5,600 crore internship program aimed at empowering youth aged 18 to 30 with industry-relevant skills and exposure, addressing youth unemployment effectively.
