Noida ranks as the cleanest city in UP in Swachh Survekshan-2023 survey

In the recently released Swachh Survekshan-2023 survey rankings by the union ministry of housing and urban affairs on January 11, 2024, Noida secured its position as the cleanest city in Uttar Pradesh. Nationally, Noida achieved the 14th rank out of 446 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) with a population exceeding 1 lakh.

Competing with 61 other cities in Uttar Pradesh, Noida emerged at the forefront, marking its distinction as the first and only city in the state to receive Water+ certification in the Open Defecation Free (ODF) category and a 5-star rating in the Garbage Free City (GFC) Category. The Water+ certification represents the highest accolade in the ODF category. In the 2022 survey, Noida had previously earned the ODF++ certificate. Prayagraj is the only other Urban Local Body in UP to have received the Water+ rating. Ghaziabad secured the second rank in the state and the 38th rank nationally, earning 3 stars in GFC and an ODF++ certificate.

The detailed report highlights Noida’s performance, securing a perfect 100% score in categories such as the remediation of dumpsites, cleanliness in market areas, residential areas, water bodies and public toilets. Additionally, Noida scored 99% in door-to-door collection of waste, 91% in waste generation vs processing and 74% in source segregation. Overall, out of a possible 9,500 marks, the city received 8,117 marks.

In the previous 2022 survey, Noida was declared as the Best Sustainable Medium City, securing the first rank in the state and the fifth rank nationally among 382 ULBs with a population between 1 and 10 lakh. Over the years, Noida has demonstrated a remarkable improvement in cleanliness rankings, evolving from its national rank of 324 in 2018 to achieving the fifth position in 2022.
