Delhi Metro Golden Line Extension to Jewar Airport Proposed

Delhi Metro Golden Line

A New Connectivity Milestone in the Making

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled an ambitious plan to extend the Delhi Metro Golden Line to the upcoming Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport. This move aims to provide seamless connectivity for passengers traveling between Delhi and the new airport, enhancing convenience and boosting the region’s infrastructure.

Key Features of the Proposed Extension

The extension will directly link Aerocity to Jewar Airport, with an interchange at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The plan involves extending the Golden Line to Kalindi Kunj and covering a distance of 5 kilometers. Two metro stations, Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden, are set to become pivotal points in this project, streamlining travel for commuters.

Cost and Timelines

The estimated cost of this extension project is INR 960 crore. Once construction begins, it is anticipated that the metro will become operational within three years. This means passengers could enjoy this new route by 2027.

Approval Process

The proposal has been submitted to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, for approval. If sanctioned, this will mark Noida’s second metro route connecting to the IGI Airport, complementing the existing Blue Line.

Other Proposals for Connecting Noida Airport to Delhi NCR

To further enhance connectivity, several additional proposals are being considered:

1. Rapid Rail Corridor: Extending the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat line to Jewar Airport, spanning 72 kilometers and linking Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, and Noida.

2. Expressway Link: A direct connection between Jewar Airport and IGI Airport via the expressway.

3. Integrated Transit Network: Enhancing interchange facilities for a more cohesive and user-friendly travel experience.

Tughlakabad-Aerocity Extension: A Complementary Project

Apart from the Jewar Airport extension, DMRC is also planning a short corridor connecting Kalindi Kunj to Tughlakabad. This project is part of the INR 950 crore Aerocity-Tughlakabad connectivity initiative, which aims to enhance metro interchange facilities. The project aims to connect the Blue Line, Magenta Line, Aqua Line, and a proposed new route extending from Botanical Garden to Noida Sector 142, with completion expected within three years.

Noida International Airport: A Gateway to the Future

The Noida International Airport is set to be inaugurated in 2025. The first phase, scheduled for completion in April 2025, will have an annual passenger capacity of 12 million. To put this into perspective, Delhi’s IGI Airport handles 73.6 million passengers annually, Mumbai Airport accommodates 52.8 million, and Bengaluru Airport manages 37.5 million.

This airport is expected to be a game-changer for the region, easing congestion at existing airports and fostering economic development in Uttar Pradesh.

Why This Matters

The proposed metro extension and other connectivity initiatives symbolize a transformative step toward better transportation infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region. By integrating metro, rapid rail, and road networks, the government aims to provide travelers with seamless and efficient options. This vision is not just about improving connectivity; it’s about laying the groundwork for a more accessible and prosperous future.

The Delhi Metro Golden Line extension to Jewar Airport is more than just a transport project; it’s a strategic initiative that underscores the region’s commitment to progress. By bridging key transit hubs, this development will elevate travel experiences, support economic growth, and set a benchmark for urban planning in India. As this project moves forward, it’s poised to transform how residents and visitors navigate the dynamic landscape of Delhi-NCR.
