Arun Kumar takes charge as HRERA chairman of the Gurugram bench

On December 11, the Haryana government appointed Arun Kumar as the chairman of the Gurugram bench of the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA). The order was issued by Arun Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (town and country planning), and the appointment is effective for a period of five years or until reaching the age of 65.

Arun Kumar is a retired IAS officer from the 1989 batch of the Haryana cadre and is a resident of Motibagh in Delhi.

The Gurugram HRERA bench's previous chairman, KK Khandelwal, retired in February 2023. Formerly the director general of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Khandelwal also served as the Chandigarh deputy commissioner. He was later appointed as the chief commissioner of the Chandigarh Right to Service Commission by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in October 2023.

The administration also appointed Parneet Singh Sachdev, principal chief commissioner of the income tax department in Chandigarh, as the chairman of the Panchkula bench of HRERA. In addition, the government granted voluntary retirement from service (VRS) to Sonia Trikha, Director General Health Services (DGHS). She has been appointed as a member of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).

The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) is present in each state to regularise the real estate sector. Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 seeks to protect homebuyers and boost investment in the industry. It also works towards speedy dispute regulation. 

HRERA, Gurugram, has registered over 1,000 property brokers and has registered over 500 real estate projects.
