Four of Agra's historic landmarks will be 100 meters or less from Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and his dream project, the Agra Metro rail. According to sources, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has been issued a special permit by the National Monument Authority (NMA) to design the Agra Metro route and cover the four important monuments of Agra within a 100-meter radius.

The NMA has also instructed the Metro Rail authorities to make sure that the monuments are not endangered by the track and station work. This action will aid in reducing the amount of traffic on the roadways near the monuments. The Red Taj Mahal, Patthar Ghoda, Arambagh, and Lal Masjid landmarks will all be passed by the metro train, which will also travel over a path that has been cleared. Two metro routes totaling 29 kilometers in length have been planned by the Agra Metro administration. From Sikandra to the famous Taj Mahal East Gate, the first metro corridor will be 14 km long. The other corridor will feature 7 underground and 6 elevated metro stops.

On Saturday, the UP government's chief secretary paid a visit to the ongoing Agra Metro Rail Project. Agra Metro Yellow Line

• Out of six metro stations on this corridor, the construction work of three elevated stations, Taj East Gate, Basai, and Fatehabad Road has been completed. The finishing works for these metro stations are at advanced stages.

• The other three stations, i.e., Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Jama Masjid will be constructed underground.

• The construction work of the tunnel connecting the Jama Masjid Metro Station to the Agra Fort Metro Station has been completed.

• The entire tunnel between the Taj Mahal and Jama Masjid Metro Stations is expected to be completed and opened for the public in the next year.

• Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has planned to run the first metro on this 6-km priority corridor in January 2024.

On 03rd May 2023, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation conducted a test run inside the Agra Metro Depot. The authority has planned to continue these trial runs for another two months while conducting 20 tests including the Safety System, the Electrical System, and the Signalling System. The construction work for the remaining stretch is expected to be completed in 2026.
